YouTube users worldwide experienced disruptions while streaming content and accessing the app for about 60 minutes on Thursday morning. The issues began just before 7am in East Asia and affected hundreds of thousands of users globally. According to Downdetector, a website that aggregates website disruptions in real-time, the number of error reports peaked at 393,038 in the US alone.
Major disruptions were reported in Japan, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, with users experiencing problems streaming, accessing the website, and using the apps of YouTube and its affiliates. YouTube Music and YouTube TV also reported smaller disruptions, with fewer than 5,000 error reports in the US.
YouTube confirmed the disruptions and assured users that the issues had been resolved. "This issue has been fixed – you should now be able to play videos on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV!" the company wrote on X.
YouTube has not disclosed the cause of the disruptions or the global extent of the problem. However, users can now access the platform without issues.¹ ²
