Afghanistan and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire After Talks in Doha

Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire during talks hosted by Doha, Qatar's foreign ministry announced early on Sunday. The agreement came after a week of fierce border clashes that killed dozens and wounded hundreds in the worst violence between the two countries since the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021.

The talks, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, focused on immediate measures to end cross-border terrorism against Pakistan emanating from Afghanistan and restore peace and stability along the Pak-Afghan border. Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the Kabul team, led by Defence Minister Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob, had arrived in Doha for the negotiations.

Pakistan's foreign office said Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif would lead discussions with representatives of the Afghan Taliban. The two sides also agreed to hold follow-up meetings in the coming days to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire and verify its implementation.

The ceasefire reflects a critical step towards stabilizing the volatile Pak-Afghan border. Ongoing negotiations are essential to address cross-border terrorism and ensure lasting peace.¹ ²

Trump Administration Labels Muslim Brotherhood Branches as Terrorist Organizations

The Trump administration has officially designated the Muslim Brotherhood's branches in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan as terrorist organizations. The State Department has labeled the Lebanese branch a foreign terrorist organization, while the Jordanian and Egyptian branches have been listed as specially designated global terrorists for supporting Hamas.
