North Korea Nears Completion of ICBM Capable of Hitting US, Says South Korean President

North Korea is in the final stages of developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that could hit the United States with a nuclear weapon, according to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. Although Pyongyang has yet to master the critical re-entry technology required for successful delivery, President Lee believes this hurdle will likely be overcome soon.

Speaking at an investor relations session at the New York Stock Exchange, Lee emphasized the need for negotiations to halt North Korea's nuclear development and potential exports. "Let's reduce nuclear weapons in the mid-term and pursue denuclearization in the long term," he stated. The South Korean leader also reiterated that US President Donald Trump would be the "only" person capable of negotiating directly with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, who has expressed openness to talks if the US drops its insistence on complete denuclearization.

This development heightens regional security concerns and underscores ongoing challenges to peace on the Korean Peninsula.
